JAVA CITY™ 100% RAINFOREST ALLIANCE CERTIFIED™ COFFEE TO BE OFFERED ONBOARD AMERICAN AIRLINES™

SACRAMENTO, CA., November 01, 2010 - American Airlines and Java City, Sacramento's hometown roaster of fine coffees since 1985, begin today a new partnership where Java City coffee will be offered onboard all American Airlines flights. Passengers onboard all domestic and international American Airlines flights will be offered Java City's uncommonly smooth brew as part of American's complimentary beverage service. The coffee onboard American will now be served in 10 ounce cups that will be co-branded with the Java City logo and the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal, in addition to the American brand.

The Java City coffee available on American Airlines flights will be a blend of Central American beans sourced from coffee farms that are Rainforest Alliance Certified. Farms awarded the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal have met rigorous standards for sustainability that involve reducing waste, water pollution and water usage, while curbing deforestation and protecting wildlife habitat. Further, farm workers must be provided with good work and living conditions, decent wages, and their children must have access to schools and health care.

Java City first began sourcing Rainforest Alliance Certified coffees in 2000. Since then, sustainable coffees have expanded to comprise nearly 25 percent of the total annual supply of coffee that Java City sources. "We're thrilled to provide American Airlines customers with a sustainable, great tasting Java City coffee experience," said Chuck Van Vleet, CEO at Java City. "While socially and environmentally responsible coffees have become integral components of our company's mission, we've worked hard to maintain the roasting principles that produce the 'uncommonly smooth' coffee our customers and consumers have come to expect."

"American Airlines' commitment to sourcing Rainforest Alliance Certified coffee shows that consumers around the globe are embracing sustainability," said Tensie Whelan, president of the Rainforest Alliance. "Passengers can enjoy their cup of coffee knowing that it comes from well-managed farms, where ecosystems and wildlife are protected and where workers enjoy access to health care, education, decent wages and dignified housing."

Since 1985, Java City has stayed true to its commitment towards social responsibility and sustainability initiatives. While the importance of sourcing fairly traded and sustainably grown and processed coffees has grown, Java City continues to establish direct relationships with coffee farms around the world to help them produce quality coffee through the use of sustainable practices, which helps to improve their economic strength while improving the living conditions in the farming community. In addition to its extensive corporate recycling program, Java City also contributes all of its used burlap coffee bags to the Sacramento Zoo where it's used for animal bedding.
